The High Energy Astrophysics Division in the Center for Astrophysics invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships.
One position is for an astrophysicist to join the High Energy Astrophysics Division as an SAO Postdoctoral Fellow, to study the environments, modes of accretion, and evolution of AGN using Chandra, XMM-Newton and Spitzer observations with particular focus on the XDEEP2 Chandra survey, Spitzer IRAC observations of the DEEP2 fields, and the 9 square degree Bootes multiwavelength survey.
A second postdoctoral fellowship is for the study of early-type galaxies, groups, clusters, and radio galaxies. In addition to studies of individual objects, the candidate also may be involved in surveys of all types of galaxies and AGN. The position involves the analysis and interpretation of data principally from Chandra and XMM. Data from other wavebands, including observations from Spitzer and the VLA, will be employed as needed.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in astronomy, or physics, and have experience in observational extragalactic X-ray or IR studies appropriate to the position. Familiarity with Chandra, XMM, Spitzer and VLA data analysis will be an asset. Successful applicants will work with Ralph Kraft, Christine Jones, Stephen Murray, and William Forman.
In addition to data analysis, the candidates will be expected to develop original investigations suitable for proposing for new X-ray and IR observations.
The initial appointments will be one year, beginning about September 2010, and will be renewable for a second (and possibly a third) year. Successful candidates will have access to facilities at SAO. Interested applicants should send a CV, statement of research interests, and names of three references to the above address; applications received by 15 February 2010 will be given full consideration. For further information please contact Dr. W. Forman (617-495-7210; email@example.com) Dr. C. Jones (617 495 7137; firstname.lastname@example.org), or Dr. R. Kraft (617 496 7709; email@example.com).
