Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in cosmology at Swinburne University in the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing. Although applications in all areas of cosmology are encouraged, the suggested focus of the position is the joint analysis of current and future large-scale structure and weak gravitational lensing datasets.  The appointee will also have a generous fraction of their time to pursue their own research interests.

The key datasets for the project include the recently-completed WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey, one of the largest existing galaxy redshift surveys spanning 1000 square degrees up to redshift z = 1, and overlapping imaging datasets from the 2nd Red Cluster Sequence (RCS2) survey. The successful applicant would work with Dr Chris Blake and members of the WiggleZ Survey team, along with colleagues in Europe and Canada working on the RCS2 dataset.

The Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University is one of Australia's largest astronomy groups with more than 60 staff and students. Excellent local supercomputing facilities are available, and Swinburne has guaranteed access to the Keck telescopes for up to 20 nights a year. Swinburne contains a strong cosmology research group including several postdocs and students working on the latest galaxy clustering datasets together with large-scale N-body simulations. The campus is located in the cosmopolitan inner-city suburb of Hawthorn, and Melbourne is one of the world's most livable cities.

Appointment will initially be for two years, with funding likely to be available for a third year subject to performance. The salary scale is 70,174 - 75,289 Australian dollars per annum depending on experience, plus a generous 17% superannuation entitlement.

Applications should be sent by e-mail (pdf format preferred) by 10 February 2012 and must include a CV, bibliography and statement of research interests of up to 3 pages. Applicants should arrange to have three references sent to Dr Chris Blake at the above address by the application deadline. Any enquiries regarding the position should be e-mailed to Dr Chris Blake (cblake@astro.swin.edu.au).

Included Benefits:

The salary includes a 17% superannuation entitlement. Other benefits include an annual travel fund and relocation expenses.
