The institute of astronomy of the Universidad Católica del Norte invites applications for a post doctoral research assistant to study the properties and acceleration processes in hotspots of active galaxies using a multiwavelength approach. The applicant will work together with Prof. Steenbrugge and Prof. Blundell of the University of Oxford. The institute is currently undergoing a phase of expansion, with 2 faculty members and a post-doc hired within the last 2 years, and another post-doc position to be advertised in the near future. The institute has a timeshare on all the telescopes of the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum located near Cerro Armazones, the future site for the E-ELT. The successful applicant can apply for the 10% Chilean time on the international telescopes in Chile.
Candidates must have a PhD in physics or astronomy and have expertise in the analysis of interferometric radio/mm data. Expertise in optical/IR data reduction is a plus. The position is for 2 years, is available from April 1st, and does include funds for computational facilities and national/international travel.
