The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC, Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for TWO post-doctoral positions in Astrophysics to work with Dr. Jordi Cepa within the framework of the project “EVOLUTION OF GALAXIES” (AYA2011-29517-C03-01), financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The successful candidate will be based at the IAC's headquarters in La Laguna, in a stimulating and keen working environment. The IAC is one of the leading research centres in Spain covering theoretical and observational research and instrumentation across most areas of Astrophysics. It has been selected as one of only eight “Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence” in research by the Spanish Government, and the only one in Astrophysics. The successful candidate will have access to all telescopic and supercomputing facilities in the Canary Islands, including the 10.4m GTC, as well as to other Spanish facilities, ESO, ESA, and IRAM.
The main purpose of the position is to work as postdoctoral researcher on the study of galaxy evolution using extragalactic multi-wavelength imaging surveys in the optical and far-infrared, and multiple-object spectroscopy. A good CV covering extragalactic astronomy, expertise in observations, reduction and analysis of tunable filter images, and multi-wavelength extragalactic databases, are essential. Experience in observation and reduction of multiple-object spectroscopic observations will be an asset.
Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 32.886 €
Duration: 33 and 27 months, starting along 2012 and ending 31st December 2014
