The University of Notre Dame Department of Physics invites applicants to apply for a position as postdoctoral scholar / research scientist to work with Professor Justin R. Crepp in experimental astrophysics. Notre Dame is a partner with the Large Binocular Telescope (http://www.lbto.org/index.htm) and has a strong astrophysics group. The successful applicant will work on the design, construction, and testing of instruments that operate at visible and near-infrared wavelengths to detect and study extrasolar planets orbiting nearby stars.
Qualifications include a PhD in physics, astronomy, or a related field, strong communication skills, and leadership qualities. Applicants with previous postdoctoral experience and a background in instrumentation are particularly encouraged to apply, although more junior applicants are also eligible. It is anticipated the position may become permanent, depending on the availability of funds. Support is guaranteed for three years though contingent upon performance. Base salary will be commensurate with experience. Some funds for moving expenses are available.
