The Leibniz-Institut für Astrophysik Potsdam (AIP) is offering a postdoctoral position in ARCHES, an EC-funded multinational collaboration led by the OAS in Strasbourg. The project will focus on the X-ray survey data from the XMM-Newton mission. New tools will be developed for cross-correlation with extensive archival resources, producing well characterised multi-wavelength data in the form of spectral energy distributions for large sets of objects. The applicant shall take respnsibility for serendipituously discovered clusters of galaxies, develop an integrated cluster finder and generate a high-quality cluster catalogue.
Applicants must hold a degree in astronomy and are expected to have solid experience in programming. Familiarity with data management and organization would be an asset.
Review of applicants will begin November 1st, 2012 and continue until the position is filled. The preferred starting date for the successful applicant is March 1, 2013. Appointment is possible for up to 30 months. The salary is based upon the German federal public service scale (TV-L) and includes health insurance and other benefits.
