Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in observational time-domain astronomy at the University of Maryland. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Suvi Gezari on wide-field, multi-epoch imaging from the GALEX Time Domain Survey in the ultraviolet, and the Pan-STARRS1 Survey in the optical, together with follow-up spectroscopy programs. The University of Maryland Department of Astronomy will have guaranteed access to the 4.3-meter Discovery Channel Telescope via a newly established partnership with Lowell Observatory. Candidates with a strong background and demonstrated research record in observational astronomy and large surveys, and an interest in variable and transient phenomena, such as AGN, quasars, tidal disruption events, supernovae, and variable stars are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by the start date of the position. The appointment is for two years, renewable to a third upon mutual agreement, with a start date of September 2013 or earlier.

To apply, please send a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and a statement of research interests and qualifications (in PDF form) to Suvi Gezari by email at suvi@astro.umd.edu by 31st December 2012. Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address by 31st December 2012.
