We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled researchers to work with OCE Science Leader Dr. B. Koribalski and her team on current and future extragalactic HI surveys. The research positions are located at the ATNF Headquarters of CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science (CASS) in Sydney, Australia. The team will be part of our vibrant Astrophysics Group, supplemented by co-supervised students and visiting researchers. With engineering and science commissioning of the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) progressing well, this is an exciting time to be at CASS and play a leading role in the extragalactic HI Survey, WALLABY.
1) 3-year postdoc position: junior researcher no more than three years since award of PhD; experience and interest in radio interferometry, HI imaging, and galaxy studies (Ref.: NSW12/03390)
2) 5-year research fellow: research scientist with excellent publication record; demonstrated experience and interest in radio interferometry, HI imaging, and galaxy studies. Good programming skills are required. (Ref.: NSW12/03388)
Our goal is to study the formation and evolution of galaxies in the Local Universe using observations and numerical simulations. This project focuses on nearby galaxies and their multi-wavelength properties, with strong emphasis on HI gas dynamics. You will bring excellent programming skills, experience in spectral line data analysis, novel ideas, and the drive to explore the Local Universe. CSIRO’s recently upgraded Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) provides ample opportunities to carry out detailed studies of cold gas in and around galaxies.
Applications close 18 November 2012 and must be made through the respective job references at http://csiro.nga.net.au.
