The Astronomy Group at the University of Southampton has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to become part of the ERC funded LODESTONE project. The LODESTONE project unifies the polarization key science projects from multiple next generation telescopes to investigate the origin and evolution of comic magnetic fields in large-scale structure.
The successful applicant will work with Dr Anna Scaife on the recovery and analysis of rotation measure data from observations of large-scale structure in the inter-galactic and inter-cluster medium made with the LOFAR, MeerKAT, eMERLIN and APERTIF telescopes. Candidates are expected to have a background in radio interferometry and/or radio polarimetry. Experience of data reduction with the LOFAR telescope will be considered advantageous.
The initial appointment is for two years, renewable on the basis of initial achievements. A PhD in astronomy or a related field is required. Equipment and travel funding is available.
Interested candidates should send a CV, publication list, a brief research statement, and three letters of recommendation by October 31st 2012 to Mrs Ceris French (C.French@soton.ac.uk) and fill in the online application at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The position is available from January 1st 2013.
