The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University invites applications for a faculty position in the area of theoretical astrophysics. We seek outstanding individuals who will complement and expand the current activities of the physics and astronomy department (www.physics.northwestern.edu) and will become active members of CIERA, the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (www.ciera.northwestern.edu). Candidates from all areas of theoretical astrophysics are encouraged to apply. Areas of particular interest include stellar astrophysics, exoplanets, compact objects and gravitational-wave astronomy, and stellar dynamics. We are also interested in connections to upcoming observational efforts (e.g., ALMA, LSST, JWST) and in connections to related disciplines (e.g., planetary sciences, computer science, applied mathematics, or statistics). Applicants should have a strong record of achievement in astrophysics research and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and outreach in physics and astronomy. An appointment at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level is anticipated, but an appointment with tenure at the Associate Professor level might be possible for an exceptionally well qualified candidate.
Interested applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a research statement and should arrange for a minimum of three reference letters to be sent in support of their application. The deadline for submission of all materials is November 30. All materials should be submitted electronically; see the submission instructions posted on the departmental web page www.physics.northwestern.edu.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy has a strong commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff. Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
