Applications are invited for postdoctoral research positions in theoretical astrophysics at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS). HITS gGmbH is a private non-profit research institute carrying out multidisciplinary research in the computational sciences. It receives its base funding from the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
The successful applicant will join the Theoretical Astrophysics research group of Prof. Dr. Volker Springel at HITS and Heidelberg University, which focuses on galaxy formation, star formation and its regulation, dark matter and dark energy, gasdynamical and radiative processes, as well as cosmology. While numerical methods of different kinds (including particle-based and mesh-based techniques) are a primary focus of the group, applicants with strong analytic background are welcome to apply as well.
The group of Springel at the HITS is closely linked to the vibrant astronomical research community of the Centre for Astronomy of Heidelberg University (ZAH), the largest university astronomy group within Germany. In addition, interactions with scientists at the Max-Planck-Institutes for Astronomy (MPIA) and Nuclear Physics (MPIK) are strongly encouraged.
To apply, please enter your application, consisting of a full curriculum vitae, a publication list, and a statement of research interests, via the link above (reference TAP HITS-06-2012). You will also be asked to supply the contact details of three referees who are willing to send a letter of recommendation on the applicant's behalf.
Applications must be submitted by Dec 15, 2012. Please note that all applications should be submitted via the online system.
Informal enquiries relating to this post may be addressed to Prof. Volker Springel (volker.springel@h-its.org).
