Post-doctoral and PhD positions will be available in observational cosmology starting from September 2013 at The Laboratoire d’Astrophysique of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne.
The successful candidates should have a strong interest in cosmology to address fundamental questions regarding the Dark sectors of the Universe (Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Dark ages). These questions will be tackled based on: i) deep multi-wavelength observations, ii) wide-field imaging and spectroscopic surveys, iii) gravitation lensing techniques, iv) galaxy clustering or v) image processing and statistical techniques. He/She will be welcome to participate in the main projects developed at LASTRO, in particular AS3-eBOSS and the ESA-Euclid space mission.
These positions will be funded either by the "Light on the Dark" project (a 5-year ERC Advanced Grant awarded to Jean-Paul Kneib) or by Swiss National Science Fundation. EPFL is recognized as one of the best Universities in Europe, addressing both engineering and fundamental sciences. The Astrophysicists from EPFL and Geneva University share the same facilities at the Observatoire de Sauverny near Geneva. There are also natural connections with CERN and with the Swiss Science Data Center, where the Euclid Science Data will be hosted.
Applicants should submit a CV, a list of publications, and a research statement, via email to lastro@epfl.ch in the form of ONE SINGLE pdf file. Three reference letters are to be sent directly to the same email address before December 3, 2012. Post-doc positions are initially for 2 years, with possibility of extensions. The positions come with very competitive salary, and benefits.
