Two PhD positions in Astrophysics at the University of Surrey

The University of Surrey offers 2 PhD positions starting in the fall of 2013, for a period of 3.5 years.
The successful candidates will work in the new astrophysics group of the University of Surrey under the supervision of Justin Read and Mark Gieles. The PhD projects will focus on dynamical studies of the structure and evolution of the Milky Way and its (globular) star clusters. The projects will be theoretical and computational in nature and aim at providing synergy with the upcoming ESA Gaia mission and related surveys.
The University of Surrey is part of the South East Physics Network (www.sepnet.co.uk), which consists of 7 Universities in the South East of the United Kingdom. Of particular interest is the SEPNet Graduate School (http://www.sepnet.ac.uk/study/sepnet_graduate_school.html) which offers advanced graduate courses and training which will be available to the successful candidate and form part of the training and education.
Applicants must have a masters degree or equivalent in physics, mathematics, astronomy or astrophysics at the time of start of the PhD and the posts are open to students of UK/EU nationality.
