Postdoctoral Research Appointment at the new astrophysics group of the University of Surrey
The University of Surrey has a vacancy for a 3 year postdoctoral research appointment to join the new astrophysics research group preferably before the summer of 2013.
The position is to work with the recently appointed chairs Justin Read and Mark Gieles and two lecturers who will be recruited in early 2013. The department is looking for proposals in areas of observational, theoretical or computational astrophysics that have synergy with the research areas of the newly appointed chairs. In particular we want to strengthen our research effort in the field of stellar dynamics, with emphasis on collisional systems (i.e. stellar clusters), providing a synergy with the ESA Gaia mission and related surveys.
Applicants must have (or have submitted) a Ph.D. in astronomy or astrophysics by the time of appointment to the post, and will be expected to work independently.
Applications must be submitted in PDF format by e-mail to Miss Louise Wilkinson (email: Louise.Wilkinson@surrey.ac.uk) and contain a cover letter, CV, publication list and a 3 page research statement outlining current research efforts and plans for the next 3 years. Applicants should also include names and contact details for three academic referees, who will be contacted by the University of Surrey. Referees are not required to send their support letters at this time.
Applicants can address informal enquiries about this position to Prof. Mark Gieles (mgieles@ast.cam.ac.uk, tel: +44[0]1223-337529) and/or Prof. Justin Read (justin.inglis.read@gmail.com, tel: +41[0]44 632 71 29).
All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence.
Closing Dates: Friday 30 November 2012.
