The Department of Astronomy at Universidad de Chile invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Planetary Sciences. The successful applicant should hold a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or a closely related discipline, obtained no earlier than 2003, and have a strong background in observational Planetary Sciences. Priority will be given to those whose research interests and expertise complement and synergize current multidisciplinary research at Universidad de Chile. Successful applicants will be expected to develop a vigorous research program extramurally funded from multiple government funds, build effective collaborations, and demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence. The candidate is expected to be able to teach in Spanish within a year.
The department of Astronomy at Universidad de Chile (www.das.uchile.cl) has 16 tenure-track faculty members, strong graduate and undergraduate programs, and hosts several government funded research centers (Basal, Anillo, Centros Milenios). The candidate will be eligible to apply to 10% of all the telescope time in Chile, including ALMA, VLT, Gemini, Magellan, and future 30 meter-class telescopes.
