Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position at the Center for Radiophysics and Space Research at Cornell University. We are interested in candidates with prior experience in theoretical/computational astrophysics, and also with potential connections to observational astronomy. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Dong Lai on various theoretical astrophysics problems, focusing on astrophysical fluid dynamics (e.g., accretion disks in various contexts, stars and planets), and on astrophysics of compact objects (neutron stars, white dwarfs and black holes) and exoplanets. He/she will also be able to benefit from interaction with other Cornell theoretical astrophysicists (senior
members include R. Bean, D. Chernoff, E. Flanagan, R. Lovelace, S. Teukolsky and I. Wasserman) and planetary scientists (J. Burns, J. Lunine, P. Nicholson, etc).
The position is initially a one year term appointment, renewable for up to three years contingent on funding and performance. The nominal start date is September 1, 2013, but an earlier appointment is negotiable.
Inquiries may be addressed to Prof. Dong Lai (dong@astro.cornell.edu).
Applicants should submit a CV (including list of publications) and a brief (1-2 pages) description of research interests, all in a single pdf file, to Lynda Sovocool at lmk3@cornell.edu. (Please note"Theoretical Astrophysics Postdoc" in the subject heading.) They should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email address. All materials should be received by Dec. 15,2012. Later applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
