Job Description Duties
The Australian Gemini Office (AusGO) within the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) wishes to appoint two AusGO Research Fellows, to be based at the AAO's new headquarters in North Ryde, Sydney. The successful applicants will direct their own high profile research programs, as well as carry out research in collaboration with other AAO research staff. The AusGO Research Fellows will spend 50% of their time on AusGO activities and 50% on their research.
The AusGO Research Fellows help to support the day-to-day activities of the AusGO, including assisting Australian astronomers in preparing Phase I and Phase II telescope time proposals, and providing expert technical support for a variety of Gemini instruments. Reporting to the Australian Gemini Scientist (AGS), the AusGO Research Fellows will assist the AGS with the Australian Time Allocation Committee, reporting to stakeholders on Gemini funding and outcomes, and supporting the other activities of the AusGO including public information and outreach. In addition the AusGO Research Fellows will help support Australian access to other 8m-class telescopes including the twin Magellan 6.5m telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile.
