The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA), Peking University, Beijing, China, and Steward Observatory, the University of Arizona invite applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar Position in the area of Extragalactic Astronomy. This appointment will be initially for three years. The Scholar will have main residence in Beijing for two years, and in Arizona for one year, with detailed order to be negotiated with the successful applicant. It is possible to extend another year in Arizona based on performance and available funding. Visits to the other location is expected.  The Scholar will bepart of Dr. Xiaohui Fan's research group.  Expertise in high-redshift galaxies, quasars/AGNs, intergalactic medium, quasar absorption lines, largescale structure, or experience in optical/IR observations and submm/mm observations is highly desired. By the start date (Fall of 2013), the candidatemust have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field.

The Scholar will be provided a research budget and is encouraged to carry out independent, original research. With English as its working language, KIAA is designed to be an international center of excellence in astrophysics, a forum for global scientific exchange, an incubator for innovative projects, and a training center for international postdocs and students. The programs of KIAA focus on studies in three major areas of astrophysics: a) cosmology, first light, galaxy assemblage; b) star and planet formation, interstellar and intergalactic medium; and c) gravitational physics and high-energy phenomena. While in Arizona, the Scholar will have full access to the observational facilities of the University of Arizona, including the 2x8.4mLarge Binocular Telescope, the 6.5m MMT telescope, the two 6.5m Magellan Telescopes, the 2.3m Bok Telescope and the 10m  Sub-millimeter Telescope, as well as advanced computing facilities at Steward. Arizona is a full member of the SDSS-III and LSST collaborations.
