Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

The Faculty of Engineering at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) in Chile is offering at least two faculty positions in Astrophysics. The requirements are a Ph.D. and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research and teaching.

The successful candidates will be the first faculty of a new Astrophysics group at UDP whose main aim is to carry out a vigorous research program. UDP has established an agreement with the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC) which will actively support this new group. The positions are open to all areas of observational, experimental and theoretical astrophysics. The primary qualification is excellence in research. The positions carry teaching duties in Astronomy and Physics at the undergraduate level, with a load of no more than two courses per year. The candidates are expected to be able to teach in Spanish within a year.

The successful applicants will have access to 10% of all telescope time in Chile, including VLT, Gemini, Magellan, ALMA and other telescopes in the country, including in the future facilities such as the GMT and the E-ELT. The agreement with PUC will allow access to large computing facilities.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and short statements of research and teaching interests, and should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent electronically to Prof. Rodrigo Garrido (astrophysics@udp.cl) by December 31th 2012. Late applications may be considered until the positions are filled.
