Job Announcement Text:

The GRAPPA (Gravitation AstroParticle Physics Amsterdam) Institute is a collaboration between the institutes for Theoretical Physics, Astronomy and High Energy Physics at the Science Faculty of the University of Amsterdam (http://grappa.science.uva.nl/). Six recently hired faculty members are active: Shin’ichiro Ando, David Berge, Gianfranco Bertone, Patrick Decowski, Ben Freivogel, Jacco Vink. Their research interests include dark matter, dark energy, neutrinos, and cosmic rays, with a focus on both theoretical modeling of astrophysical source physics as well as (in)direct detection. In addition, there are about 15 affiliated GRAPPA faculty from the collaborating institutes, who are involved with experimental work on Antares/KM3NeT, ATLAS, CTA, LOFAR and XENON100/XENON1T,  as well as theory.

We invite applications for postdoctoral positions in theoretical astroparticle physics, associated with Shin’ichiro Ando and Gianfranco Bertone. The targeted area of research is theoretical/phenomenological study of dark matter searches from colliders, direct detection experiments, and gamma-ray telescopes. Candidates already having experience in these fields are preferred, but those who have shown excellence in different fields and are willing to broaden their research interest are also encouraged to apply. The appointment is for two years (with a possible extension to a third year depending on funding), with a salary set by the Dutch labor law, and funds for travel, computers, etc.

Candidates should send a research statement (maximum 4 pages) and a curriculum vitae including publications to s.ando@uva.nl, with the subject “GRAPPA Theory Postdoc”. Candidates should also ensure that three letters of recommendation are sent to the same address by the deadline, December 1, 2012. Exceptional applications will also be considered for the GRAPPA Fellowship, see ad elsewhere in the Job Register.

GRAPPA is a lively, international research institute located at the UvA Science Park Campus, 10 minutes train ride from downtown Amsterdam.   English is our lingua franca.

Included Benefits:

The standard, generous Dutch social benefits apply to this position including medical insurance, 16 weeks maternity leave, childcare subsidies, pension accrual, and ~30 days annual paid vacation.
