The Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam( AlP) invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in the area of galactic dynamics/galactic archeology. The candidate is expected to work on the analysis and scientific exploitation of data accumulated by the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE). RAVE is a high latitude spectroscopic survey of the Milky Way and by fall 2012 has amassed more than 550.000 spectra in the Calcium Triplet region.
Applicants should hold a degree in astronomy and are expected to have solid experience in galactic dynamics/galactic archeology. Familiarity with data management and organization would be an asset.
The AIP is located in the beautiful Potsdam/Babelsberg area , at the southwestern border of the Berlin metropolitan area. About 120 scientists work on a variety of astrophysical topics, ranging from stellar activity to extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. Potsdam is also the home of the Albert-Einstein-Institute for Gravitational Physics, the Physics & Astronomy department of Potsdam University and several other research institutions.
Starting in 2013, the initial appointment will be made for 2 years, with a possible extension by a 3rd year. Highly qualified senior applicants may also be appointed for 3+2 years.
