Job Announcement Text:

The Institute of Astronomy, (IoA) Cambridge expects to appoint in October 2013 several postdoctoral researchers in subject areas covered by the IoA's observational, X-ray and theoretical astrophysics programmes. The programmes are broadly defined and incorporate research undertaken by IoA faculty members.  The research includes observational work in near-field cosmology, Gaia satellite temporal science, star and planet formation in the Galaxy, star formation in galaxies, evolution of galaxy and AGN populations, gravitational lensing, quasar absorption lines; X-ray studies of clusters of galaxies and active galaxies; theoretical work on the cosmic microwave background and the early universe, structure and galaxy formation, accretion discs, formation and evolution of stars and their planetary systems. Successful applicants will be expected to pursue research within the context of the overall programme and to develop a high degree of interaction with the faculty, postdoctoral researchers and research students.

Applicants must have a PhD in Astronomy or a related field or have submitted by time of appointment.  The current salary scale is £27,578 to £35,938 p.a., depending on experience, plus superannuation benefits.  The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.  The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.

Applications must be made via the on-line system accessible via the link above. The names and contact details for three referees are a necessary part of the submission. Referees will be contacted automatically following an application but applicants are strongly advised to prepare nominated referees for the need to provide references (in response to the on-line generated request) in good time.
