The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr. Jeremy Bailin in the area of theoretical galaxy formation, with a focus on the age-metallicity relation of stars in the McMaster Unbiased Galaxy Simulations (MUGS) and Ramses Disk Environment Study (RaDES). The successful candidate will also be expected to conduct other research of their choosing using MUGS and be involved in planning and performing next generation galaxy formation simulations.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in performing and analysing numerical simulations of galaxy formation, excellent oral and written communication skills, and experience observing or making direct comparisons between theory and observations.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in astrophysics or similar field by the date of employment. The position will start no later than September 2013, with earlier dates preferred. The initial appointment will be for two years, with a possible one-year extension dependent on mutual interest and availability of funding.
All applications received by December 17, 2012 will be guaranteed full consideration. Applications must be submitted to http://facultyjobs.ua.edu/postings/30762 and consist of a CV and a statement of past and future research interests. In addition, please arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to jbailin@ua.edu with the subject line: "Postdoc Recommendation for YOUR NAME".
