SKA Science Director

Reporting to the SKA Director-General, the Science Director will lead all science activities within the global SKA project. The SKA will be one of the greatest discovery machines ever built and the science goals will define the specifications of the system. However, science is constantly changing as new discoveries are made. The Science Director will lead a redefinition of the SKA science case, be the principal advocate of the SKA within the radio astronomy and broader scientific community, and will oversee the translation of the science goals to engineering specifications.
As the Science Director you will be an active scientist with an international reputation in science areas to be addressed by the SKA; you will have in-depth knowledge of astronomical facilities and instrumentation, the ability to develop consensus opinion from the international science community on the science goals of the SKA, and the ability to lead a team translating those goals into engineering specifications. You will engage with the senior engineers in trade-off studies to guide the design of the SKA.
This position will be based at our new headquarters building at Jodrell Bank Observatory, United Kingdom.
