SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS, THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cosmology
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Cosmology at The University of Queensland, to investigate theoretical proposals on the nature of dark energy. The University of Queensland is one of Australia’s premier Universities and hosts one of the strongest groups of Physics researchers in Australia, broadly covering quantum physics, laser science, condensed matter physics, and astrophysics.
The role: Your research will test theoretical proposals that explain the observed properties of dark energy, and develop new observational tests that can distinguish between different dark energy models. These may include advanced theories of gravity, inhomogeneous cosmologies, and connections with quantum physics. The idea is to make observational predictions from some of the most promising non-standard theories so we can look for evidence for-or-against them. Imagination and inventiveness will be encouraged on the types of observations / experiments that may shed light on the dark energy puzzle – such as attempts to measure dark energy in the laboratory.
The research interests of the UQ Astrophysics group focus on cosmology and the formation and evolution of star clusters and dwarf galaxies. We are co-leaders of the WiggleZ Dark Energy Galaxy Survey on the Anglo-Australian Telescope and have access to high-performance computing facilities.
The person: You will be a dynamic and innovative astrophysicist with evidenced excellence in research. You will be largely self-directed within the scope of the project, working with the support of Dr Tamara Davis and the other cosmologists at UQ.
Remuneration: The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$69,784 - $77,764 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$76,064 - $84,763 p.a.). This is a one year full-time, fixed-term appointment at Academic Research Level A. The University of Queensland offers a wealth of flexible work options to help staff balance their responsibilities at work and at home. The School of Mathematics and Physics welcomes applications from those seeking flexible work arrangements.
Enquiries: To discuss this role please contact Dr Tamara Davis on +61-7-3365-3433 or email tamarad@physics.uq.edu.au. To submit an application for this role, go to http://www.uq.edu.au/uqjobs/ and use the Apply button. Applicants are requested to send a CV, a list of publications, a brief statement or research interests, and the names of three referees.
