Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee

The University of California Observatories invites applications for one Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee position. The appointee will work with Professor Jean Brodie and the SAGES group on Extragalactic Globular Clusters, their fundamental  characteristics  (mass-to-light-ratios,  stellar  populations,  etc.),  and  their  role  as  tracers  of  galaxy formation in a cosmological context. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in optical/near IR imaging and spectroscopy and research experience in the field of extragalactic star clusters and/or galaxy formation. Time will be available for independent research.
 
RANK: Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee
 
SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent in Astronomy or Physics. Observing experience, solid publication record and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

POSITION AVAILABLE:  June 1, 2013 (negotiable)
 
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initial appointment is for one year, but is intended to be available for up to three years, with reappointment reviewed annually. Should hiring unit propose reappointment, a review to assess performance will be conducted. In addition, reappointment is contingent upon availability of funding. For appointments within the University of California, the total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including Postdoctoral service at other institutions. Under certain circumstances, a sixth year may be considered.
