SUBARU POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – ID# 12543.
National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (three (3) years in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), Subaru Telescope, located in Hilo, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,416/Mon.
DUTIES: We are seeking a candidate who will be expected to carry out outstanding research activities on extragalactic astronomy. Either observational or theoretical researchers will be considered. Emphasis would be put on the relationship between the galaxy formation/evolution and the cosmic reionization, especially the emission of ionizing photons from star-forming galaxies. Participates in the planning and execution of the observation programs using Subaru Telescope and other facilities.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: PhD from an accredited college or university in Astronomy or closely related field. EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years of experience in astronomy or astrophysics research. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of extragalactic astronomy. Knowledge of observational astronomy (optical and infrared). Able to develop astronomical research projects. Skills on astronomical data analysis, observational data processing, database handling, and software development. Good written and oral communication skills.
