Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

A post-doctoral research position in Extragalactic Astronomy is now opened for application at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris. The successful applicant will work with Raphael Gavazzi and Emmanuel Bertin and their collaborators, on archival wide field optical data with a special interest in deep multi-band CFHT/Megacam images covering clusters of galaxies.

The project consists in improving, testing and optimizing the model fitting capabilities of the SExtractor3 code with the goal of yielding accurate weak lensing estimators of shear and flexion and massively automated diagnostics of strong lensing events. The upgraded code will then be applied to archival cluster fields.

The successful applicant will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment. IAP is involved in leading capacities in several international projects, including Planck, Herschel, Euclid, CFHTLS, BOSS... The project will benefit from the expertise of the TERAPIX team hosted by IAP.

The two-year appointment could begin as early as April 2013 but no later than October 2013. Candidates should send their application by email. This application should include a CV, a research statement, a list of publications, and 3 letters of recommendation. The deadline for a full consideration of applications is set to January 16th 2013 but late submissions will be considered until the position is filled. The net annual salary will be ~25,000 Euros. The appointed scientist will receive generous travel, research, and visitor funds.

Included Benefits:

The position includes comprehensive benefits packages such as transportation and lunch subsidies, medical insurance, maternity leave and retirement benefits through the French social security system.
