The Astronomy Departments of Universidad de Chile and Yale University invite applications for a post-doctoral research position in observational star formation and molecular cloud physics. The successful applicant will collaborate with Profs. Garay, Mardones and Arce (and other members of the UChile–Yale collaboration) on studies of star forming regions using observational data and/or radiative transfer codes. The postdoctoral associate will also have time to perform his or her own research. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in astronomy or related field by date of appointment. The applicant should have experience in observations of star-forming regions at (sub)-millimeter, and/or infrared wavelengths. Experience with radio interferometer observations is desirable.
The applicant will spend two years at Universidad de Chile and one year at Yale. At Universidad de Chile the candidate will be eligible to apply to Chilean telescope time (including ALMA, APEX, VLT, Gemini, and Magellan). At Yale the candidate will have access to Keck, WIYN, and the SMARTS telescopes, as well High-Performance Computing facilities.
Applications consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, publication list, and a brief (~3 page) description of research interests and plans should arrive by January 16, 2013. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to arrive by the same date. Email all materials, including letters, to email@example.com.
The initial appointment is for two years, renewable for a third, and offers competitive salary and benefits, and travel and research funds.
