The Department of Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral research position with Steven Balbus, Savilian Professor of Astronomy, in the field of astrophysical fluid dynamics. Current areas of study include the physics of accretion disks, stellar interior dynamics, and MHD processes in dilute plasmas. The appointment is for two years commencing 1 October 2013 or soon thereafter and is based in the sub-department of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford.
The successful candidate will have, or will be about to receive, a PhD in a relevant area of theoretical astrophysics. They should have a demonstrated capacity for independent work, the ability to initiate research projects, and should be able to interact productively within the extended community of theorists and observers that comprises the Astrophysics sub-department. Candidates with backgrounds in theoretical fluid dynamics and/or large scale numerical simulations are particularly encouraged.
Salary will be within the range of Grade 7, (£29,249 - £35,938), depending upon qualifications and experience.
Only applications received by midday on 31 December 2012 can be considered. You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, curriculum vitae, and list of publications, and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition, candidates should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to vfw@astro.ox.ac.uk by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not referee letters.
