The Physics Department at Stanford University invites applications for one or possibly two post-doctoral positions in Professor Vahe Petrosian's research group. These appointments are for up to two or three years and are reviewed annually. Starting date for one of these positions could be as early as January 2013.
Professor Petrosian's research is in high-energy astrophysics generally, specifically in particle acceleration in astrophysical sources such as solar flares, accretion disks and jets, the interstellar and intra-cluster mediums. For past publications, click ADS and astro-ph links at:

Successful applicants are expected to pursue research in areas related to the current research in the group with the first position involving partly modeling of the particle acceleration in solar flares using data from RHESSI and Fermi satellites. The successful applicants will be also encouraged to be involved with other research activities of Kavli Institute of Particle Physics and Cosmology (KIPAC) which is a joint institute formed by the Departments of Physics, Applied Physics, and by SLAC at Stanford University. See http://kipac.stanford.edu/kipac/
Applicants should have, or be in the process of completing, a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics and should possess a strong research background.
Review of applications will begin on January 1, 2013 and continue until the positions are filled.
Inquiries may be addressed to Prof. Petrosian (vahep@stanford.edu)
Applicants should provide a statement of research interests, a CV, and arrange for three letters of reference, sent to Dana Volponi (volponi2@stanford.edu).
