The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (DAA) at Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for a postdoctoral position.
The successful candidate will carry out and lead numerical research together with Prof Cuadra and collaborators in one or both of the
following broad areas: (i) proto-planetary and debris discs, (ii) accretion on to the Galactic massive black hole. In either case, the
research should be related to the new observational opportunities provided by ALMA.
The DAA provides a vibrant and productive international environment with 15 faculty, >25 postdoctoral researchers, and >30 graduate
students. The postdoc will have access to our new 520-core supercomputer and growing GPU infrastructure, intended for astrophysical calculations. The candidate will also have access to the 10% of time of all telescopes in Chile, including ALMA, VLT, and many others. Moreover, the postdoc will benefit from existing collaborations with leading observers, including the proto-planetary group of Prof Casassus in Santiago, the Chilean node of the Event Horizon Telescope in Concepción, and the Galactic centre group at MPE.
The initial appointment is for two years, starting as early as May 2013.
