Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to work with Professor Rolando Dünner in the field of Cosmic Microwave Background cosmology, at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). The successful applicant will join the ACT team, accessing the new data from ACTPol (http://www.princeton.edu/act) which is expected to come on-line in March 2013. He (She) will have access to a supercomputer with more than 1000 CPUs and 3000 GPUs at PUC. The postdoc will also have access to 10% of the observing time of all other telescopes installed in Chile, including ALMA, GEMINI, Magellan, VLT, and many others.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute in the analysis of CMB temperature and polarization power spectrum, foreground lensing effects, thermal and kinetic Sunyaev Zel’dovich effect signal from galaxy clusters, radio source detections and related topics.
Applicants should have a PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics or have submitted their PhD thesis by the time they take up the post. Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate research ability at an international level, with a good track record of publications in the field of CMB studies, and team work capabilities. Programming skills are important, as well as good knowledge of the theory and data analysis techniques.
Starting in 2013, the initial appointment will be for 2 years. It offers competitive salary, plus travel funds.
