ATLAS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP – ID# 12628
Non-Regular, F/T, Limited Term (up to 3 years), RCUH Non-Civil Service position w/ the Institute for Astronomy (IfA), Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) project, located in Honolulu, HI. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, & compliance w/ applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,416/Mon.
DUTIES: Contributes to design, development, construction, & installation of ATLAS system. Participates in HW & SW development & installation. Assists w/ operating system & performing research on population of Near Earth Objects & other asteroids observed w/ ATLAS.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. (Ph.D. candidates may apply but must submit evidence of Ph.D. completion upon hire.) Exper. w/ HW & SW development for astronomical applications w/ wide-field CCD asteroid surveys, & astronomical observational & reduction techniques. Proven record of research publications in refereed journals. Understanding of issues involved in astronomical image analysis w/ respect to identifying moving objects (asteroids & comets), & computer network design. Proficiency in various SW languages, including: C, Fortran, Python, & Perl., MySQL, & various operating systems, especially Unix/Linux. Valid driver’s license. Lift 40 lbs. of computer equipment. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Able to work at 14,000 feet & pass post offer high-altitude medical exam.
