A two year postdoctoral research position will open at the Department of Physics, University of Oulu, Finland, focused on the development of a model for the Jovian meteoroid (dust) environment. The position is part of an ESA funded project, including collaborations with the Universities of Potsdam (group of Frank Spahn) and Stuttgart (group of Ralf Srama) in Germany. The scientific effort will start from an assessment of the present knowledge of the Jovian dust environment, the dust generation processes, and the dynamical evolution of dust particles, to construct a computer based model that can be used to estimate the dust hazard for future space missions to Jupiter. For this task it will be useful to have experience in the field of solar system dynamics, especially circumplanetary dust dynamics, some statistical physics, and numerical methods. For further information on the project please contact Juergen Schmidt of the University of Oulu (jurgen.a.schmidt@oulu.fi).
It is planned to fill the position by April to Mai 2013. Those interested should please send their application by email to jurgen.a.schmidt@oulu.fi until 1st of February 2013. There should be contained a brief CV (place and date of degrees, titles of theses, any further qualifications and awards), list of publications (most important ones marked), and the contact details of two persons available for recommendation. If possible, please combine the application to one single pdf file.
