Project:
Call for the selection procedure for one research grant of the duration of two years entitled: “The Intergalactic Medium as a Cosmological Tool: the galaxy/IGM connection”. The main goals of the project are: i) analysis of quasar spectra at high, medium and low resolution; ii) analysis of cross-correlation properties between absorption lines and galaxies. Research will be carried out through systematic comparison between observational data and results of hydro-simulations. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with dr. Matteo Viel and with other members of the Cosmology/IGM group of the Observatory of Trieste in the framework of the ERC-project CosmoIGM funded by the EU.
Research includes comparison with spectroscopic data at high, low and medium resolutions (UVES, SDSS, X-Shooter) and with strong sinergies with the instruments being developed at Trieste Observatory (ESPRESSO and CODEX). The successful candidate could join BOSS (SDSS-III) collaboration to investigate IGM as Large Scale Structure tracer at high redshift. For further info contact Matteo Viel (e-mail: viel@oats.inaf.it).
The salary is competitive and a generous travel/research allowance is present.
Deadline: 01 March 2013
Evaluation: qualifications/expertise and CV (2 letters of reference, possible interview). Preference will be given to candidate with documented experience in the analysis of observational data.
