Job Announcement Text:
The Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics of the Pennsylvania State University has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research appointment with Prof. David Burrows.

A PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field is required.  The position will entail analysis of Chandra and XMM observations of both Galactic and Magellanic Cloud supernova remnants, and will be at the level of Postdoctoral Scholar or Research Associate, depending on qualifications.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.  Penn State is the lead institution for the ACIS instrument on Chandra and for the X-ray Telescope on the Swift Gamma-ray Burst Explorer.

The successful applicant will also have access to other Penn State facilities, including the Hobby-Eberly telescope. Previous experience with X-ray astronomy data analysis of supernova remnants using data from Chandra or XMM is highly desirable.

The position is for two years, with the second year contingent on continued funding from NASA.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, statement of research interests, and list of three references to Prof. David Burrows, 525 Davey Lab, University Park, PA 16802.

Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and will be accepted until the position is filled.

Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.

Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity and the diversity of its workforce.
