Job Announcement Text:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in X-ray astrophysics at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research (MKI) and the Department of Physics at MIT.  The position requires a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics.  Candidates should have demonstrated ability and initiative in modern astrophysics research, preferably with experience in high-resolution spectroscopy: theory and modeling, data analysis, and/or instrumentation.

The successful applicant will carry out self-motivated and collaborative research in an environment that includes Chandra HETG and ACIS research scientists.  The unifying topic is high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy as applied to astrophysical observations in one or more areas of hot and cool stars, supernova remnants, X-ray binaries, AGN and jets, clusters of galaxies, the ISM and WHIM.  The candidate may be involved in the analysis, modeling, scientific understanding, and selection of one or more of our HETG guaranteed time observations (GTO).

The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a third depending on performance and funding; the starting date is nominally the fall of 2013.

Qualified applicants should send their CV, publications list, statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the address above (pdf or paper).  Review of the applications will begin on March 18 and continue until the position is filled.

MIT is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
