Leiden Observatory is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research position to design the near-IR imaging pipeline for the Euclid satellite, the European Space Agency's next cosmology flagship mission to be launched in 2020.

The postdoc will work with Rychard Bouwens and Ivo Labbe at Leiden University, Andrea Grazian in Rome, and other members of the OU-NIR team to prototype the near-IR pipeline for the Euclid Science Group Segment.

Leiden Observatory is the oldest university astronomy department in the world and the largest astronomy department in the Netherlands.  Research at the observatory spans a wide range of areas including cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, interstellar matter and star formation, stars and planetary systems, computational astrophysics, and astrochemistry.  Leiden is a charming university town with an international flair, located nearby Amsterdam.

The appointment will be for a period of four years. The position comes with full benefits and a competitive salary. A starting date no later than October 2013 is preferred.  Successful candidates must have received their Ph.D. by the starting date.

Extensive experience with computer programming is required.  Experience with (near-IR) imaging observations is a strong advantage.  Experience with software design is welcome.
