In the framework of a new ERC project (PI: F.-K. Thielemann in collaboration with M. Liebendoerfer and T, Rauscher, Jan 2013 to Dec 2016), funded by the European Research Council, applications are invited for one to two postdoctoral positions at the Physics Department of the University of Basel. The project with acronym FISH (FaInt Supernovae and Hypernovae) explores three-dimensional magneto- hydrodynamics applications with neutrino transport in Newtonian, special relativistic and general relativistic approaches. The aim of the project is to permit efficient 3D core collapse models which lead to delayed or direct black hole formation on present HPC hardware. In addition to the work on the project, the Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to engage in teaching assistance or system administration.
The Department of Physics at the University of Basel performs research in Condensed Matter and Astro/Particle/Nuclear Physics. It is internationally well connected and participates in numerous networks that offer opportunities for new collaborations. Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Computational Sciences, or a related field. Expertise in computational astrophysics, high-performance computing or computer architectures is welcome. Interested candidates are asked to submit a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a statement about possible research beside the above-mentioned project, and arrange for three letters of recommendation. Please submit all documents in PDF or txt format to f-k.thielemann@unibas.ch with the keyword 'postdoc:' and the name of the applicant in the subject field.
