Job Announcement Text:

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate to work on simulating star cluster formation from the gaseous phase (gas but no stars) through the star formation phase (mix of gas with stars) to the stellar phase (stars but no gas).  We will use the AMUSE software environment for these simulations.

The objective is to study the different modes of star cluster formation and the consequence for the further evolution of the cluster. Techniques used will include hydrodynamics, stellar evolution, gravitational dynamics and radiative processes. The environment is written in Python, but the underlying codes are written in a wide variety of computer languages.  The simulations will be performed on a grid of computer systems throughout the Netherlands and internationally.

The appointment will be for four years and comes with full benefits and a competitive salary. A starting date no later than October 2013
is preferred.  Successful candidates must have received their Ph.D. by the starting date.

Extensive experience with computer programming and software design are an advantage.

Leiden Observatory is the largest astronomy department in the Netherlands. Dutch astronomy has been selected as one of six `Top
Research Schools' by the Dutch government and astronomers in the Netherlands have access to a wide range of facilities, and the
Netherlands in a core participant in PRACE.

Applications should be submitted electronically via http://jobs.strw.leidenuniv.nl/2013/AMUSEPD. The application review process will begin on April 15, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled.
