The Governing Council (Consejo Rector) of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), chaired by the Spanish Minister for the Economy and Competiveness, invites applications for the position of “Director of the IAC”.
The Director shall be an active astrophysicist of recognized international prestige with proven experience in the leadership of international projects, and demonstrated skill in leading high-impact research teams. The experience in managing research institutions will be considered.
The Director of the IAC is the executive organ of its Governing Council; with the responsibility to determine science policy and resolve administrative, financial and personnel issues in accordance with the guidelines established by the Governing Council.

Applications must include: a curriculum vitae, information on relevant experience and accomplishments, the candidate’s vision for the evolution of the IAC, and all additional information the candidate considers relevant.
The applications will be studied by an external scientific advisory committee which will propose a short list of three finalists, from which the Consejo Rector will appoint the new Director.
Contract:
The initial contract is for a period of five years, which may be extended by another single consecutive period of five years.
