We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled postdoctoral researcher to work with OCE Science Leader Dr. B. Koribalski and her team on current and future extragalactic HI surveys. This is a 3-year post-doctoral appointment based at the ATNF Headquarters of CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science (CASS) in Sydney, Australia. The team will be part of our vibrant Astrophysics Group, supplemented by co-supervised students and visiting researchers. With engineering and soon science commissioning of the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) progressing well, this is an exciting time to be at CASS and play a leading role in the extragalactic HI Survey, WALLABY.
Our goal is to study the formation and evolution of galaxies in the Local Universe using observations and numerical simulations, with a focus on nearby galaxies and their multi-wavelength properties. We are seeking a junior researcher (no more than three years since award of PhD) with experience and interest in radio interferometry, HI imaging, and galaxy studies. You will bring excellent programming skills, experience in spectral line data analysis, novel ideas, and the drive to explore the Local Universe. CSIRO’s recently upgraded Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) provides ample opportunities to carry out detailed studies of cold gas in and around galaxies.
Applicants should follow the link to the CSIRO recruitment pages (Ref: NSW13/03277) for a full job description and the selection criteria. Applications must be made through the CSIRO web pages and be completed by November 18th, 2013.
Generous Superannuation and discretionary research allowance will be provided. Relocation assistance and medical insurance may also be provided.
