The Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) wishes to appoint a highly motivated Super Science Fellow as part of our Super Science funded program, "The Galaxy Genome Project". The successful applicants will conduct research on the Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) project, and the planned TAIPAN project (extending the 6dF Galaxy Survey), in collaboration with the Head of AAT Science, Andrew Hopkins, and other AAO research staff.

The goals of the Galaxy Genome Project are to assemble the largest ever collection of galaxy spectra in order to study galaxy evolution, the large-scale structure of the universe, and cosmology. This will be achieved by consolidating the premier ongoing and planned survey programs using the world-leading facilities of the Australian Astronomical Observatory with data from new facilities such as SkyMapper and ASKAP. The Galaxy Genome Project will provide a wealth of new information and scientific results, and enhance the value of all major astronomical surveys for the next decade.

The investigators on this project are: Andrew Hopkins (Head of AAT Science), Matthew Colless (ANU RSAA Director), Chris Lidman, Simon Driver and Scott Croom. The Fellow will be working with data from the GAMA survey
( ) and the 6dF Galaxy Survey
( ), and preparing for the TAIPAN survey.

The position is open to candidates with up to 3 years of experience since the award of their PhD at the time of starting the position. The position is a 13 month appointment, and subject to the satisfactory completion of a 3 month probation period.

The position is available immediately and located in North Ryde, Sydney.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for a specified task from January 2014 to February 2015
