Applications are invited for a research scientist appointment in the Physics Department of the Ludwig-Maximilians University to carry out research in the area of structure formation and cosmology.  The appointment will be made in the Cosmology and Structure Formation group led by Prof. Joseph Mohr.  The scientist will be invited to take part in the scientific exploitation of the proprietary datasets from the Dark Energy Survey, Pan-STARRS1, and the South Pole Telescope.  Moreover, the scientist will be invited to join the eROSITA all sky X-ray survey (launch end of 2014) and the Euclid mission (launch 2020), contributing to our preparations for these missions.  The successful candidate will pursue their own research program and will have the opportunity to supervise PhD students in the group.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics. The appointment will begin in late 2013 or 2014.  This is a German civil service position (Akademischer Rat) open to all qualified individuals, regardless of nationality.  German language skills are not required.   The initial appointment will be made for two years with the possibility of extension up to five years, pending adequate research progress.  Please send a CV, a publication list, and a research statement; in addition, please arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Prof Mohr.  Applications should be received by November 1, 2013.
