The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC, Tenerife, Spain) invites applications for ONE Postdoctoral contract on “Numerical Simulations in Galaxies” within the framework of the "SEVERO OCHOA Programme" (SEV-2011-0187); a prestigious recognition awarded to the IAC as a leading research institute in Spain, and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
The IAC is one of the leading research centres in Spain, covering theoretical and observational research and instrumentation across most areas of Astrophysics. The successful candidate will have access to all telescopic and supercomputing facilities in the Canary Islands, including the 10.4m GTC. Ample travel funding is available.
The candidate must have a doctorate in astrophysics/physics by the deadline for applications. Experience with a solid background in simulation codes and data analysis, and knowledge of programming languages, is highly desirable.
The main tasks for this position are related to theoretical and numerical research on the formation and evolution of galaxies with particular focus on the properties of the present day galaxy population. The appointee will have access to data from state of the art numerical, cosmological simulations, as well as detailed observations carried out by IAC researchers, and will join the newly established galaxy formation and evolution theory group, led by Dr. Claudio Dalla Vecchia, with close ties to the observers at IAC. The candidate will also have the opportunity to interact with an extensive network of international collaborators.
Remuneration: The gross annual salary is 32,886 €
