Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Lowell Observatory in the field of observational binary star formation. The postdoc will work in collaboration with Dr. Lisa Prato on the characterization of individual components of young multiple systems, observing, reducing, and analyzing high-resolution infrared spectra, most of which have already been collected, from the IRTF, VLT, and Keck telescopes. The postdoc is expected to participate in and take the lead on publications resulting from the research. The postdoc will also be expected to assist with the development of a web site for the public dissemination of the processed data. The initial appointment is for one year with automatic extension to two years in the case of satisfactory progress. Extension to three years may be possible depending on the availability of additional funding. The position entails an 80/20% split between the main program and research of the postdoc's choice. The start date will be summer or early fall, 2014. Grant funding is available for computer resources, attending conferences, and participating in observing runs. Full health insurance and retirement benefits are provided. A PhD in physics, astronomy, planetary science, or a closely related field is required. Experience with high-resolution IR spectroscopy is strongly desired and familiarity with IDL is helpful.
