The stellar & solar group at CEA-Saclay, France, seeks to fill a 30 months fellowship position in stellar dynamo and star-disk interactions to begin no later than 1st semester of 2014. This position is funded by ANR via the project Toupies. The objective is to characterize stellar dynamics and magnetism and to understand how young stars impact their surroundings.
The successful candidate will study dynamo action in G & K stars at various rotation rates with a specific attention on the young phase of these objects. Some target stars will also be considered depending on the observational data provided by the Toupies consortia. This study will make use of the 3-D parallel ASH code. The postdoc will also study star-disk MHD interactions using the open source 3-D parallel PLUTO code and realistic magnetic topologies deduced from observations or ASH simulations.
He/She will work at CEA-Saclay near Paris. The gross salary (between 36,000 to 48,000 €/yr) will depend on qualifications and experience. The postdoctoral fellow will also benefit from successful ongoing collaborations in France, Europe and US on topics directly connected to stellar magnetism and the inner and outer dynamics of stars.
We seek a motivated scientist with a PhD in astrophysics, plasma physics or geophysics to develop state-of-art 3-D MHD numerical simulations of stellar rotation and magnetism and their interaction with a disk.
