Postdoctoral research position in computational astrophysics
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the newly established Theoretical Astrophysics group at Universität zu Köln, Germany. We focus on the theoretical understanding of the physics of the interstellar medium in disk galaxies, covering the area of star formation and stellar feedback to the driving of galactic fountains and outflows. This is done utilizing three-dimensional, high-resolution simulations, which require high-performance computing. The group aims at bridging the gap between local studies of star formation and feedback and the galaxy-scale evolution of the interstellar medium.
Candidates should have a university diploma and a Ph.D. in astronomy or related field and a strong record in computational astrophysics and/or modeling of the ISM. Experience in GPU programming is very welcome.
The successful applicant should perform and analyze simulations of star formation and/or feedback in the interstellar medium. He or she may closely collaborate with observers, constraining and quantifying measures and observables to cross-correlate simulations and observations.
The appointment will be for two years with the possibility of one year extension. The salary is based on the E13 TV-L scale (39,83 hours/week), which accounts for experience and qualification.
