The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for its Planetarium Director position, effective Autumn Semester 2014. The Planetarium Director will be responsible for strategic development and all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the 63-seat OSU Planetarium. Duties include: scheduling, training of student volunteers, developing new programs, and developing laboratory exercises for general astronomy courses with the instructional faculty; teaching of approximately 4 introductory astronomy course sections per year.
Qualified applicants are required to have a PhD in Astronomy, Physics or closely related field, experience in informal education and outreach activities and/or experience in instruction in Astronomy and/or Physics, and strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience in management of a similar facility and experience with the Spitz SciDome projection system and its software is desirable but not essential. Above all, we seek a candidate with a strong commitment to education and broad public outreach that takes advantage of this exceptional facility.
